Denture Information

Do I need new Dentures?

Dentures are not intended to be a once in a life time purchase!

People of all ages wear dentures, sometimes it may be a temporary measure before more extensive treatment like implants or replacement of old dentures that no longer perform as they once did.

Unfortunately, your mouth is no different to any other part of your body and changes will occur over time. Dentures sit on top of living moving tissues and will need several adjustments as time goes on for maximum health and performance. It is really important that you have your gums checked at least every year even if you don’t have natural teeth.

On average, it takes about five years for significant changes to occur in the mouth. At this point the dentures will not fit your mouth as well as they did.  Many people say that they have been wearing the same dentures for 15 years or more. The truth is that they have probably deprived themselves of full comfort and function for the last 10 years!

So what can I do?
After a comprehensive assessment, I will be able to suggest many treatment options at all costs that have been previously successful with other patients just like you. My job is to inform you of how different treatments feel, function and last, including if there are any on going costs. At the end of the day the choice is always yours and will not be pressured into any treatment until you are happy and ready to proceed.

Denture Relines
Temporary Reline
A temporary denture reline is especially for patients who have swollen or sore gums due to wearing poorly fitting dentures for a long time. In this case we need to “condition” the gums back into good shape before we either reline or make new dentures. This material is soft and added to the fitting surface of the denture and worn for a few weeks.
The good news is, I can carry out a temporary denture reline directly at the appointment so you won't need to be without your dentures.

Hard reline
A hard denture reline will improve the fit and stability of your dentures. We can replace the fitting surface to match the contours of your mouth to restore grip and comfort. Please note that you would normally be without your denture whilst the new base is positioned which normally takes 24hours. On some occasions a reline can conveniently be carried out while you are in the chair!

 BPS Dentures Performance Dentures
(Biofunction Prosthetic System)

These Dentures really are the way forward for full denture wearers. These dentures are balanced meaning that there is better stability when eating which enables you to chew your food rather that eating in a straight up and down fashion. Only Clinicians who have completed the BPS education system from Ivoclar Vivodent can provide this service.

Dr Abe Suction Denture Technique

This is the very latest technique for making lower dentures that stay still while eating. The lower denture actually achieves suction to give maximum stability. This is a very technique sensitive process and is more successful with experience. Fortunately I attended the first Program in Europe over 4 years ago and have successfully treated over one hundred and fifty patients using this technique.

Immediate Dentures

Find your smile, straightaway
You shouldn't have to wait several weeks for your mouth to heal after your tooth extractions – or feel self-conscious for an additional month while your dentures are being made. When our Dentist colleague removes your unhealthy teeth, I will fit your immediate dentures to give you the confidence you need, straightaway.

Ready to wear on the same day
Before your natural teeth are extracted, we will create an immediate complete denture or partial denture that is ready to wear on the same day as your treatment. With our team working closely together, we will make sure that your immediate denture can be inserted immediately after your unhealthy teeth are extracted.

Giving you time to heal
After approximately three months, your tissue and gums will heal. Because your gums will change shape, you will need either a denture reline or a new denture. Depending on your individual needs, we may advise that your immediate denture is a temporary solution, and create a new denture once all healing has taken place.

Enjoy real confidence, every day
In my experience, losing even a single tooth can be an upsetting personal experience. For many of our patients, living with one or several missing teeth has had a big impact on their self-esteem.Enjoy new confidence to make the most of every day with the people around you.
